Research Study Opportunity
Sports Cardiology BC, led by Dr. Isserow has been conducting a research study focusing on screening young competitive athletes (ages 12-35) for cardiovascular diseases that can lead to sudden cardiac death. A summary of the study can be found from this article in the Vancouver Sun: http://www.vancouversun.com/health/researchers+study+cardiac+abnormalities+athletes/9069237/story.html
The screen is quick and non-invasive. Testing takes no more than 10-15 minutes and includes a personal and family history questionnaire, physical exam with physician and resting 12-lead electrocardiogram. If there are any abnormal findings from the screen, follow-up testing with a cardiologist will be organized.
We have been testing athletes from all over the lower mainland and would like to expand our research to include athletes from Vancouver Island so we can have a population that is more representative of British Columbia as a whole. We plan on coming to the island with members of our group and would very much like for the Shamrocks and others be included in the study.
Please let me know your thoughts on your athlete’s participating and let me know if you have any further questions.
